Kylie Jenner Experiences the Power of a Smile in Peru

Kylie Jenner, creator of Kylie Cosmetics^℠, pop culture phenomenon, entrepreneur, and Smile Train Ambassador, has helped provide more than 1,800 free cleft surgeries to children in need through sales of her limited run of Kylie Cosmetics^℠ lip kit, called “Smile.” To witness the impact she made firsthand, Jenner, joined by her mother Kris and her best friend Jordyn, visited local Smile Train partners and patients in Peru in May. 

Jenner and the group first visited Smile Train’s local partner hospital Asociación Civil Mision Caritas Felices. Here, they were greeted by the director of the hospital, Smile Train partner surgeon Dr. Luis Barrenechea. As they toured the hospital, Dr. Barrenechea answered all of their questions and told some amazing patient success stories of the 300+ Smile Train sponsored cleft repair surgeries he’s performed since 2009.

Next, Jenner went to a waiting room where a nervous mother, Luz, was awaiting her daughter Mia’s cleft lip surgery later that day. Jenner comforted Luz by saying that as Mother’s Day was only a few days away, Mia’s new smile would be the perfect gift for Luz.

After Jenner spent time bonding with Mia, she sat in on a speech therapy session with former Smile Train patients and she surprised them with some free Kylie Cosmetics℠ lip kits, which were a huge hit.

The next day, Jenner and her group and Smile Train partner Dr. Roberto Vargas drove for an hour to visit Mia and Luz at their home, to see how Mia’s cleft repair was healing. Dr. Vargas said Mia was fortunate, as her mother found Smile Train right away and she received her cleft lip surgery early. The final verdict — Mia’s cleft would heal without issue and she would ultimately have the same opportunities as children born without clefts.

After an emotional journey with her mother and best friend, Jenner shared, “It's an honor to be part of changing so many children's futures, I'm excited to continue my relationship with Smile Train and see the difference we make together."
