Partnership will Help Bring Awareness and Funds to Support Children with Clefts in Panama
New York – Today, the world’s largest cleft organization, Smile Train, announced their two-year partnership with Monjasa, a global oil and shipping group, to help bring awareness and funds to children with clefts.
Smile Train empowers local medical professionals with training, funding, and resources to provide 100%-free cleft surgery and comprehensive cleft care to children globally. Every year, one in 700 babies are born with a cleft lip or palate globally. Clefts are the leading birth difference in many developing countries, and it is estimated more than 200,000 babies are born with a cleft every year.
For the partnership, Monjasa will support 50 cleft surgeries a year for the next two years to support Smile Train’s local programs in Panama. Monjasa employees will also be participating in employee engagement activities to help raise funds for Smile Train’s programs. Monjasa has 450 employees on land and at sea and supplies 4 million tons of marine fuels worldwide on a yearly basis.
“With the value Smile & Joy as an important part of both our workplace and how we do business, we feel that this collaboration goes perfectly hand-in-hand with Monjasa.
In addition, as we grow our business around the world, we want to give back to the local communities in which our offices are placed. The collaboration with Smile Train in Panama therefore fits perfectly,” said Rasmus Jacobsen, Managing Director, Monjasa Americas.
“Smile Train is extremely proud to be partnering with Monjasa to help provide children with clefts in Panama the help and treatment they need,” said Masha Feiguinova, Senior Director, Corporate Partnerships, Smile Train.
