Tom Osundwa, MD

Chair: Tom Osundwa, MD

Dr. Tom Osundwa, a Smile Train partner surgeon, is a Senior Lecturer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Nairobi and a PhD candidate in molecular medicine at the University of Nairobi Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases. He is a founding member of Smile Train Africa’s Medical Advisory Council and Chair of the Medical Advisory Council of Gertrude Children’s Hospital in Kenya. He is the author of a cleft lip and palate surgery guidebook and is currently advancing research on the genetic and environmental factors affecting cleft lip and palate incidence in Kenya.

Reshma Ambulkar, MD

Reshma Ambulkar, MD

Professor Ambulkar is professor of Anesthesiology, Critical Care and Pain at Tata Memorial Centre, in Mumbai, India. Professor Ambulkar was part of a research team that worked to quantify resource and training gaps for perioperative providers during COVID-19.

Nivaldo Alonso, MD, Ph.D.

Nivaldo Alonso, MD, Ph.D.

Dr. Nivaldo Alonso is the Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery at the Department of Surgery and Director of Craniofacial Surgery at the Hospital das Clínicas at the University of São Paulo (USP). He is also the Clinical Director of the Craniofacial Unit of the Hospital for Craniofacial Anomalies at the USP and past President of the Brazilian Association of Craniofacial Surgery, 2000-2002. He has been a Smile Train partner surgeon since 2008 and has led trainings for many partners across Brazil. Dr. Nivaldo is also the Chairman of the Smile Train Brazil Medical Advisory Council and a member of Smile Train’s Global Medical Advisory Board.

Nichole Starr

Nichole Starr, MD

Dr. Nichole Starr is Lifebox’s Senior Fellow and Resident in General Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Starr led a research team to quantify resource and training gaps for perioperative providers during COVID-19. Dr. Starr has also been part of efforts to improve decontamination practices during the pandemic, including UV-C decontamination, and PPE best practice.

Natnael Gebeyehu Admasu, MD

Natnael Gebeyehu Admasu, MD

Dr. Natnael Gebeyehu graduated as a Medical Doctor from St. Paul Millennium Medical College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Natnael has extensive experience as an Operational Theatre Manager and Surgical Ward Manager at St. Peter’s Specialized Hospital in Addis Ababa, where he continues to work as an Assistant Clinical Service Advisor. Natnael was an instrumental member of the team that piloted Clean Cut in Ethiopia and was part of the McCaskey Fellowship Program. Natnael is part of the Lifebox Clinical team.
