Smile Train College Scholarship Program Details

Selection Criteria

Every application and its essays will be evaluated and voted on by a committee, who will select the recipients of the four scholarships (“Scholarship Recipients”).

Application Due Date

The application period is from January 26, 2024 through May 17, 2024. Only applications submitted online will be accepted. All applications must be received by May 17, 2024 at 11:59:59 PM EST to be considered eligible. Scholarship Recipients will be notified by June 10, 2024 via email. If a Scholarship Recipient is determined not to be eligible for the scholarship or fails to provide the necessary information to facilitate the scholarship, Smile Train reserves the right to disqualify the selected recipient and select another scholarship recipient. 

Scholarship Funds

Scholarships may be used for educational expenses only, including tuition, fees, course-related expenses, and room and board. All scholarship funds will be sent directly to the scholarship recipients’ university, college, or vocational school. Recipients are required to provide Smile Train with instructions on where and how to send the scholarship to their school. Additionally, Scholarship Recipients are responsible for notifying their institution’s financial aid office of the scholarship through appropriate forms.

Grant of Rights

Smile Train will celebrate the Scholarship Recipients by acknowledging them on its website and its promotional and marketing activities. By submitting an Application, applicants grant Smile Train the non-exclusive, royalty-free, irrevocable, perpetual, worldwide, sublicensable right to use the applicant’s full name, city and state of residence, biographical information, likeness depicted in the photograph submitted in the Application and other information, and material submitted by applicant or otherwise created in connection with the scholarship in furtherance of Smile Train’s charitable and educational purposes and for all other purposes, including for advertising, trade and/or promotion on behalf of Smile Train in all media now known or later developed. 

Scholarship Recipients will be required to speak about their experiences at a Smile Train Cleft Community Advisory Council meeting in August 2024 and to participate in Smile Train’s Global Cleft Con in the fall of 2024. Additionally, Scholarship Recipients will be invited throughout the year to connect and collaborate with Smile Train’s team and boards.
