100,000 Smiles In Africa
When Zena's family thought they could never afford cleft treatment for their daughter, you gave them hope.
For nearly three years, Zena lived with an untreated cleft in her small town in Mozambique.
Thankfully, in September 2018, a neighbor saw a Smile Train advertisement promoting free cleft surgeries nearby in Pemba. When the family arrived at Hospital Provincial de Pemba, they were welcomed by veteran Smile Train partner surgeon Dr. Saraiva Simao. In less than an hour, Zena’s surgery was successfully completed. After the surgery, the family learned that Zena was Smile Train Africa’s 100,000th smile.
Zena and her family triumphantly returned to their community, where everyone was in awe of Zena’s smile.
A special thanks to everyone who supported 100,000 smiles in Africa. Our partners and staff across the continent are already hard at work providing forever smiles for the next 100,000 children and beyond.
