Smile Squad: Top Fundraisers of 2019

February 27, 2020 | Smile Train

Smile Squad is a special group of Smile Train supporters who use their time and talents to raise funds and awareness for children with clefts. Last year, 875 Smile Squad fundraisers collected a world-changing $3.8 million in a variety of ways: Some gave up birthday or holiday presents. Some walked, cooked, and planned exciting community events. At least one person donated his beard. The one thing they all have in common is a passion for transforming the lives of children in need.

We celebrate just a few of our Smile Squad superstars below.

Sadies Smile Foundation

Sadie’s Smile Foundation: After eight years of hard work, the foundation is currently 68% of the way towards its goal of honoring every precious day of Sadie’s five years of life.

Nancy McKim

Nancy McKim: Setting up a fun run and a penny war at the elementary school where she works are just a few of the ways Nancy is raising $50,000 to compete in the IRONMAN World Championships.

MS 180

M.S. 180: Over 200 audience members, including Miss USA, were blown away by the talented students of New York City’s M.S. 180 at their eighth-annual Talent Show supporting Smile Train.

Pleasant Hill Elementary School

Pleasant Hill Elementary School: The school’s Miles for Smiles event gave students the chance to learn about cleft lip and palate, getting fit, and philanthropy — all at the same time.

Pamela’s Smile Fund

Pamela’s Smile Fund: Sara and Sal Cohen hold an annual auction to give children with clefts a new lease on life. The event is a tribute to their dearly missed daughter Pamela, whose smile could light up a room.

A Clean Face for Forever Smiles

A Clean Face for Forever Smiles: Kiaya’s fundraising success at a painting party for her friends inspired her to ask her church youth leader if he’d shave off his treasured beard.

Mercer Middle School

Mercer Middle School: The Virginia school’s annual Walk-a-Thon for Smile Train has been going strong since 2011. Last year’s event raised an incredible $30,000+!

Smiletober

Smiletober: Sisters Ella and Violet were born with a cleft lip and palate in countries where Smile Train has programs. Their new smiles have motivated everyone they meet, as they’ve more than doubled their $4,500 fundraising goal.

Caitlin Grabowski

Caitlin Grabowski: This Smile Train Student Ambassador held a lunch event with live music, raffles, and giveaways that raised $14,000+.

Paul Queenan

Paul Queenan: Paul’s annual golf tournament in Massachusetts always tees up one of Smile Train’s largest annual gifts.

NYPD 17th Precinct

NYPD 17th Precinct: The dedicated members of the 17th Precinct walked the entire length of Manhattan to raise funds and awareness for Smile Train.

Eastwick College

Eastwick College: Eastwick’s Surgical Technology Department has been serving up smiles (100+ of them and counting) in the campus cafeteria for the past 10 years.
