The following was written by Smile Train’s Director of Public Relations Nijha Diggs about a women’s health awareness event she attended, organized by Smile Train strategic partner American Heart Association®.

In honor of February’s American Heart Month, I had the opportunity to attend the annual iconic Red Dress Collection Fashion Show, hosted by American Heart Association’s® Go Red For Women® initiative. The Go Red® for Women is a comprehensive platform designed to increase women’s heart health awareness and serve as a catalyst for change to improve the lives of women globally.

During the fashion show, celebrities and cardiovascular disease survivors alike walked the runway in support of women's heart health. It was amazing to see all of the stunning red gowns and everyone come together for such a great cause. The event was very informative and gave me some insight on heart health. I learned that cardiovascular disease is the number one killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year.

There is still so much more work to do. I am excited to support Smile Train’s partnership with the American Heart Association®. Smile Train is accredited as an International Training Center by the American Heart Association® for Basic Life Support (BLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). Collaborating with the American Heart Association® in this way elevates the level of care the patients we support are able to receive and helps change the world one smile at a time.
