MARIAN RIVERA

Yan ang Smile!

Filipino Actress and TV sensation Marian Rivera was first introduced to Smile Train this past year when she visited San Fernandino Hospital to celebrate Smile Train’s 30,000th cleft surgery in the Philippines. Marian was joined by boyfriend, now fiancée and Smile Train supporter, Dingdong Dantes.

“A smile is such a precious gift. It can change lives. I was so pleased to hear about the great work of Smile Train in the Philippines. It was an easy choice for an advocacy I could support. I hope that, in my own little way, I can help Smile Train make a difference in the lives of thousands more who are in desperate need of cleft surgery.”

Marian was so moved by the experience that she has since become a Smile Train Goodwill Ambassador.  She has recently taken to social media with the #YanAngSmile campaign to help spread awareness around the world of the free, safe, and quality cleft lip and palate surgeries and related treatment that Smile Train provides with the help of local in-country partners.

Marian sponsored a party for children with clefts in the Philippines who had heard about Smile Train through her #YanAngSmile campaign.
The patients were unaware Marian would be there, and were excited and surprised when she walked through the door.

“I was surprised to hear that there are nearly 5,000 Filipino children born every year with a cleft." She added, "If you know anyone who needs cleft surgery, please refer them to Smile Train so that they can get help. Those who have cleft palates, if they are not operated on early enough, they will not be able to speak properly. That is why they really need the surgery early on.”

Rivera spends time with a Smile Train patient shortly before his free cleft surgery.

Join Marian in support of Smile Train by making a gift today.  Your donation of any amount will help provide children still suffering with unrepaired clefts around the world.
