Smile Train Surpasses 800,000 Free Cleft Surgeries Performed

Smile Train celebrates our 800,000th free cleft surgery

New York, NY — Our World Smile Day, All It Takes Is A Smile campaign kicked off today with some great news, Smile Train has officially provided more than 800,000 free cleft surgeries!

Anuj Jadhav has a bright new smile that represents this amazing "smilestone." Thanks to our wonderful partners across the world and our amazing, caring supporters, Smile Train has been able to provide 800,000 free cleft lip and/or palate surgeries.

Each surgery is a modern day miracle and a new chance at life — free from the pain and isolation that an unrepaired cleft can cause. We can't thank everyone involved enough for helping us change the world, one smile at a time.

Our Vision & Mission

Every child born with a cleft anywhere in the world has the opportunity to live a full, productive life.

Clefts are a major problem in developing countries where there are over one million children who are suffering with unrepaired clefts. Most cannot eat or speak properly. Aren't allowed to attend school or hold a job. And face very difficult lives filled with shame and isolation, pain and heartache. Their clefts usually go untreated because they are poor – too poor to pay for a simple surgery that has been around for decades.
