Smile Train and Lifebox Team Up to Distribute 200 More Pulse Oximeters

Having already provided 2,000 free life-saving pulse oximeters to Smile Train partners worldwide, Smile Train and Lifebox announced another round of delivering pulse oximeters to local cleft teams. This latest shipment will be heading to Smile Train partner hospitals in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama. Peru, and Venezuela.

Pulse oximeters, a component of the World Health Organization Surgical Safety Checklist, measure the level of oxygen in a patient’s blood during anesthesia, sounding an early warning alarm if a patient is becoming short of oxygen, providing an opportunity to prevent brain damage, heart failure and in some cases, death. Patient safety is the first priority for Smile Train and these pulse oximeters will continue to enhance the safety procedures of our free cleft surgery programs.

"We are proud of our support of Lifebox which ensures that our partner hospitals around the world are given the tools to provide the safest and highest quality environment to our Smile Train patients,” said Smile Train's Executive Director Priscilla Ma.
