Executive Vice Chair and Chief Executive Officer
Susannah joined the management team of Smile Train in February 2013, after being a member of the Smile Train Board of Directors since 2003. She oversees the charity’s mission and day-to-day operations after almost twenty years in operational roles, bringing a vast network and experiences to the team.
Chief Programs Officer
Satish joined Smile Train in 2000 and is the Chief Programs Officer, overseeing all aspects of program development and implementation. He also focuses his time and efforts to build awareness about cleft and Smile Train around the world. Prior to taking on the role of CPO, Satish spent 11 years as Smile Train’s Regional Director for South Asia. Under his leadership, Smile Train’s programs grew to more than 170 partner hospitals in India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka, performing over 450,000 free cleft surgeries for children in South Asia who would otherwise never have been able to afford them.
Vice President, Donor and Community Relations
Troy joined Smile Train in 2001 and currently serves as Vice President of Donor and Community Relations. He manages the organization’s relationships with over 3 million donors who support Smile Train. He is also responsible for all community fundraising events and for managing the processing and telemarketing centers.
Senior Director, Integrated Marketing
Shari joined Smile Train’s team in November 2005 and is currently the Senior Director of Integrated Marketing. She oversees all aspects of the charity’s domestic and international fundraising efforts. She is also responsible for Smile Train’s overall brand identity, digital footprint and global PR initiatives.
Dr. Shell Xue
Senior Vice President and Regional Director, North Asia
Dr. Shell Xue joined Smile Train as Chief Project Officer for China in 2006 and currently serves as Senior Vice President and Regional Director for the North Asia region. She has used her coaching, resources development, and leadership skills to grow Smile Train’s partners from 143 hospitals to 397 in China. Smile Train’s cleft repair surgeries in China now average 26,000+ children annually, more than 70 per day.
Regional Director, South Asia
Mamta joined Smile Train in 2006 managing the largest program area in India and is currently the Regional Director, South Asia. Based in New Delhi and working on the frontlines in some of the most remote locations in India, Mamta has seen first-hand the enormity of unrepaired cleft, its impact on entire families, and the adaptability of Smile Train’s partners to transform lives.
Dr. Ashish Sabharwal
Regional Director, South East Asia
Dr. Ashish Sabharwal joined Smile Train in 2006 and steered Smile Train’s programs in North, West and Central India to record more than 100% growth in the most resource deprived areas of the country. As Regional Director for South East Asia, Dr. Ashish is now overseeing all aspects of program development and strengthening relationships with internal and external stakeholders in the region.
Vice President and Regional Director, Americas
Pamela joined Smile Train in 2007 and currently serves as Vice President and Regional Director for Smile Train’s programs throughout the Caribbean and Americas. She manages the organization’s relationships with almost 100 local hospitals and foundations across this diverse region, spanning more than 17 countries with active programs.
Dr. Githinji Gitahi
Vice President and Regional Director, Africa
Dr. Githinji joined Smile Train as Regional Director for East Africa in March of 2008, after spending more than 10 years in the medical, pharmaceutical and media industries. In 2010, he was promoted to Regional Director, Africa. Under Dr. Githinji’s leadership, Smile Train’s Africa Program has increased the number of surgeries performed from under 2,000 a year in 2007 to over 10,000 a year.
Vice President, Programs
Mackinnon joined Smile Train in 2010 and serves as Vice President of Programs, helping to develop and strengthen Smile Train’s programs around the world to reach more children in need of cleft care. She works to ensure that as many children as possible have access to safe and high-quality care through a network of 1,100+ local partner hospitals and 2,000+ local surgeons. Smile Train’s programs have grown to reach over 350 children every day in communities around the world. Prior to joining Smile Train, Mackinnon worked internationally in the field of emergency and disaster response for the United Nations.
Beatriz Gonzalez Day
Vice President, Comptroller
Beatriz joined Smile Train in 2011 and currently serves as VP Comptroller. She manages the organization’s Finance and Accounting department and works closely with the Fundraising and Grant Management departments. She maximizes the efficiency of the funds raised by Smile Train in order to help as many children with clefts as possible.
Mohamed Fakhreldin Attia Hassan
Vice President and Regional Director, MENA
Mohamed joined Smile Train in 2012 after more than 22 years in various sales, marketing and general management functions. He has worked on numerous projects throughout the Middle East region where he gained extensive experience with global multinational companies, namely Roche Consumer Health. Mohamed is using his vast experience in the region to help children born with clefts receive the medical care needed to live normal and prosperous lives.
Vice President, Principal and Planned Giving
Bill joined Smile Train in August of 2012 and is responsible for principal and planned giving, encouraging impact giving from Smile Train’s top benefactors and trust and estate giving from the organization’s most committed donors.
Vice President, Strategic Partnerships
Erin joined Smile Train in 2013 and serves as the VP, Strategic Partnerships. She has more than six years of experience working with cleft lip and palate surgical programs around the world and oversees Smile Train’s strategic partnerships and education programs.
Senior Director, Major Gifts
Rich joined Smile Train in December 2013 and is the Senior Director of the Major Gifts team. He works with individuals, family foundations and corporations to assist donors in realizing their philanthropic goals.
Senior Director, Corporate Partnerships
Masha joined Smile Train’s team in July 2014 and serves as Senior Director of Corporate Partnerships. Strong partnerships with corporations are essential to helping Smile Train fulfill its mission and perform more than 128,000 surgeries a year. Masha’s main focus is developing Smile Train’s Corporate Partnership program to include various corporate funding and partnership opportunities.
