Birdie Bonanza: Sean Farren’s Talent To Put Smiles on Children’s Faces
Long Island Golfer Makes Commitment To Help Kids with Cleft Globally
New York, NY – Club Professional Sean Farren is a golfer best known for surprising golf fans last year when he achieved his long-held dream of qualifying for the U.S. Open after 21 attempts.
But his huge compassion isn't a surprise to anyone who knows him -- this year, Sean will once again be donating money to his favorite charity, Smile Train, for his performance on the course. Farren has pledged $50 for each birdie he makes in tournament play during the 2010 golf season to Smile Train.
A long-time supporter of Smile Train, Farren has generously donated in various ways over the years. Last year when he momentously qualified for the Open, he donated money for each par he made on the course and was ultimately able to help 10 children who face lives of pain and isolation due to cleft lip and palate. Because Smile Train works directly with local doctors rather than flying in teams of Western doctors, surgeries cost only $250 and take as little as 45 minutes.
Farren is hoping for another successful season and an opportunity to help even more kids get the care that they so desperately need.
"I am thrilled that the work I do translates so directly into a positive and long-lasting impact on children's lives around the world," said Farren. "Playing golf is something that makes me smile – this is a way I can help others smile, too."
"Sean is turning swings into smiles," Smile Train Co-Founder Brian Mullaney said. "We are lucky to be able to count Sean as one of our supporters in helping us give desperately poor children around the world a second chance at life."
Sean is the Head Golf Professional at The Creek Club in Locust Valley, NY.
